Bespoke Cycles – Serotta Demo Weekend Update, 7/24-25

Thursday, July 15th 2010

The plan for Saturday in moving forward:
July 24th – Bespoke will be in Golden Gate Park between 9am and 2pm, setting people up for test rides on bikes and talking about fit. There will be snacks and drinks as well.

The plan for Sunday has changed. The Golden Gate bridge is closed until 10am so we won’t want to deal with Marin on that day. So, we’re going south. We’ll meet at the intersection of Edgewood and Canada road in Woodside here. We’ll ride this route. The route is hilly and is about 57 miles give or take. There are cut off options to reduce the length if you want and we can go over those at the start. The route is absolutely beautiful and there is little or no traffic during the majority of the ride. Think: sweeping views of the Pacific, climbing through the redwoods and quality pavement throughout most of the day.

Serotta Sets High Bar for Custom Bike Delivery

(Saratoga Springs, NY) May 21, 2010 – Serotta, the manufacturer of high performance bicycles for over 38 years, is now building its custom products in record time. With a new management team and a focus on operational efficiency, Serotta is delivering hand-crafted bicycle frames and forks, built to customer specifications, in just four weeks or less.

Serotta’s management team took the reins at the company in April, with the announcement of president Stan Mavis, formerly of Pearl Izumi and Sugoi, and vice president of sales, Bonnie Mavis, previously a senior manager at Nordstrom. The new leadership, along with an operations and production department led by Patrick O’Farrell, combined with the strongest team of artisan bicycle craftsman in the company’s long history, have helped Serotta dramatically decrease its build timelines and increase its manufacturing capacity.

“Building custom frames by hand is a time-intensive process,” states Stan Mavis. “Ben Serotta with his wealth of experience, and has been freed up to focus on product, refining operations and production processes, which has allowed Serotta to exceed all previous standards of custom bike-building quality and efficiency.”
Serotta creates complete steel, titanium and carbon fiber frames and forks in its Saratoga Springs factory. Serotta is also one of the bicycle industry’s most vertically integrated companies, sourcing all its carbon fiber at a wholly-owned composites facility in Poway, Calif., under the direction of second generation carbon fiber guru Mike Lopez.

Army Tri Teams on Custom Serotta Bikes Continue Winning Streak

West Point triathlon teams took command of USA Collegiate Division at the 2010 USA Duathlon National championships, in Richmond, VA. The women’s team swept the top four spots, while the men’s team took six in the top ten. The teams credit fast bike splits to their custom-built Serotta bikes combined with specific aerodynamic bicycle fits through Paraic McGlynn, Director of Applied Cycling Science, at the Serotta International Cycling Institute.

“It is telling that all five of our podium finishers at the 2010 USA Duathlon Nationals and 2010 Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon were riding Serottas.  Not only has the superior bike fit and performance improved the athletes’ bike splits, but their outstanding run times show that they are arriving into T2 fresher and with more energy,” states, West Point Triathlon Team Officer-in-Charge, Maj. Murphy Caine.

The West Point Women dominated the field claiming the top four finishes not only in collegiate, but also in the U-24 year old category. And in an outstanding performance, the final of her career, Ashley Morgan finished first for collegiate and second among the entire women’s field. Her bicycle of choice for the race was the MeiVici AE, which offers supreme aerodynamics coupled with the renowned ride quality and handling characteristics of a Serotta custom frame. The MeiVici AE features a seat tube angle-specific rear wheel cut out and an innovative aero seatpost for maximum aerodynamics and weight savings.

The men’s team had multiple standout performances. Brian Trainor’s earned him 18th overall, but also an individual National Championship Title for being the fastest U-19 athlete. This delivered the men’s team its fourth National Title in the past two years

The Serotta CXII was the bicycle of choice for the majority of both men’s and women’s teams. The CXII features aerodynamically shaped C5S triple-butted proprietary Colorado Concept steel tubing, which is comfortable yet stiff for maximum efficiency, while an aero downtube and stays make for a slippery profile.
The Duatholon National Collegiate Championships are held each year in conjunction with the USA National Duathlon Championship Festival. This year more than 30 colleges were represented at the Nationals. Over 1700 athletes competed to win individual national titles within age categories and a place on the 2010 USA Duathlon National Team.

West Point Women’s Tri Team Wins 2010 Collegiate Nationals

In the greatest day in the 20-year history of the West Point Triathlon Program, Army Tri upset the field of 110 collegiate triathlon teams to win its third National Championship and sweep a heavily favored Navy squad. USA Triathlon Collegiate Nationals were held on 17 April in Buffalo Springs, TX.

The Army Tri Women placed an astounding six athletes in the top 40 (out of 450) to win the Women’s Triathlon National Championship. Ashley Morgan led the way with a 4th place individual finish, which was expected given her strong track record. The surprises came in the performance of her teammates. Marcie Nordt, in only her second Olympic distance triathlon, shocked everyone by finishing 15th overall. The result was the third highest finish in the history of the women’s team.

The title was the first in the Women’s Team history at USA Collegiate Nationals, an event in which they had never finished higher than fifth.

The men’s performance was also outstanding, without any individual superstars, the West Point Men used their depth to make the podium, placing 2nd.The 2nd place finish at tied their previous best Collegiate Nationals performance from 2008

The team looks to be a blend of experience and youth as a strong contingent of freshman will represent USMA this year along with some very experienced upperclassmen.
